Prayer for Ministry

Training Wheels

When we start out learning to ride a two wheel bicycle we often need the help of training wheels.

Sometimes when faced with new areas of growth in our lives we have no relevant experience to draw upon. One of our options at that time is to, in humility, give the honour to others who have walked this way before us. We can do this by reading and learning from them.

This prayer is one that comes from one of the books in the resource list by Liberty Savard. I choose to pray this over my life.

If you want to understand some of the binding and loosing language used see W.I.T.S. 101

Lord, I am so grateful that you have saved me, are healing and teaching me how to walk in the Spirit, and that you are going to use me in the manner for which you created me. I bind my body, soul, and spirit to your will and purposes for my life. I bind my mind to the mind of Christ, I bind my will to your will, and I bind my emotions to the control of the Holy Spirit.

I bind my feet to the paths you have ordained for me to walk: to the mountains and to the valleys, to the continents and to the islands, to the dark alley ways and to the bright streets. I loose all preconceived ideas and patterns of thinking that I have ever had about "my" ministry, or about other's ministries that I have either coveted or not understood. I surrender all my dreams, visions, plans, and preparations to your will. I loose any wrong attitudes, motives, or desires that my soul is holding on to. I loose all of the offences I've ever held on to, all of the unforgiveness, all of the hurt feelings from when I felt I was being overlooked.

continues ...

Lord, I want my one desire for ministry to be that your will is always able to be accomplished in and prospered through my life. I know that I need to be a clean empty vessel in order for that to happen. I want to be emptied out of all of the things of this world, of my old nature, of man's ways and plans, of preconceived ideas, of religious and doctrinal mind-sets I have allowed to form in my soul. I don't want to leak out any ungodly mixture into my ministry, only a flowing forth of the anointing of your Holy Spirit.

Let the fruit of your Holy Spirit fill me as I loose and strip away the old grave clothes of my soul. I want to show forth the unique characteristics you have formed in me, but I don't want any attitude to frame them except love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Your Word says that those who belong to Christ will be able to manifest these fruits of the Spirit, because they have crucified their sinful nature with its old passions and desires. Lord, I loose the control and power of my old nature - my unsurrendered soul - and I loose all wrong desires and passions from my unsurrendered will.

Let me minister your love to those I come in contact with every day. Let me remember that love never fails, it is always patient and kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, nor is it proud. Love is never rude or self-seeking, not easily angered. Lord, above all else, teach me to remember that love keeps no record of wrongs and offence. I loose, crucify, sever, and strip away my soul's desire to keep files and accounts on others who have rubbed me the wrong way.

Show me how to desire only to protect others in their struggles, instead of wanting to expose their faults. I know your Holy Spirit in me can always protect me, so I can offer non-judgemental trust to all. Let me remember to always keep giving out your love to the world, showing them how you have changed my life.

Father, keep turning up the heat of your refining fire to get all the dross out of me. I want to be as pure as the finest gold that is nearly transparent. Only then will others see just Jesus in every act of ministry that I manifest. I bind myself to the paths you have ordained for me to walk, to your timing, as well as to the paths, places, doors, divine appointments, and assignments you have purposed for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lord, your Word says that if I seek first your Kingdom and Christ's righteousness, then all things will be added unto me (Matthew 6:33). Your Word says that if I will forsake all for your Kingdom's sake, then I shall receive back more than I have forsaken in this age as well as in ages yet to come. If all things have not yet been added unto me (and they haven't), then I have not truly put your Kingdom and Christ's righteousness completely first. Lord, I bind myself to your truth. Please show me errors in my thinking so I don't deceive myself over this.

I have often felt that I have sacrificed so much for you. Lord, help me to understand what sacrifice means. It is not having to surrender something because I have no choice. It is not having to let go of something because it is a law of the land. It is not to have something taken from me. Sacrifice means to voluntarily give up something for the sake of a more pressing claim - that being your will and your desire for my life. My true sacrifice must be to surrender my trust in that which I believe gives me security and control over most of the situations I might face - money. I admit that I have not really sacrificed as much as I would like to think.

Jesus said that the poor in spirit were blessed. Help me to understand that the word "spirit" here means my soul - my mind, will, and emotions. Help me to understand that the word poor used here means to voluntarily choose to make my soul poor, to surrender my will. Lord, I now choose to loose, sever, cut, dissolve, and put off all self-motivated desires, all self-perceived need, all self-drives coming out of my unmet needs that cause me to worry that I am not going to have enough money. Dear Jesus, I want to stop worrying about money. Worry is just a substitute for prayer and faith in your goodness and promised provision.

Regardless of all the prosperity Scriptures I have learned to quote, you are under no obligation to provide funding and resources so I can pursue my will, or so I can pursue what I have decided must be your will. But you have promised that you will always provide for those who are walking as fully as they know how in order to see your will would be done in their own sphere of influence and in all of the earth.

Lord, you say in Isaiah (58:7) that we are to share our food with the hungry, we are to provide the poor wanderer with shelter, we are to clothe the naked when we see them, and we are not to turn away from our own flesh and blood in their needs of any kind. We are not called to judge how people came upon hard times, but we are to give out of whatever we have to help alleviate their suffering. I believe you will provide all I need as I pursue your will as purely as I know how. Amen.
